    Organizational Setting and Reporting
    The internship is located in the Communication and Speechwriting Team of the Office of the Director-General/ Executive Director (ODG/OED) of the United Nations Office at Vienna/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNOV/UNODC). This position is for an initial period of four months, starting end-September 2016, with the option to extend to a total period of six months, based on the needs of the office and the availability of the intern.
    The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
    Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
    Responsibilities
    The intern shall undertake the following duties in support of the Communication and Speechwriting Team, which may include, but are not limited to:
    • Monitoring daily media for stories related to UNOV/UNODC mandates; monitoring press coverage of the DG/ED and UNOV/UNODC and providing analysis of trends
    • Identifying and assisting in arranging suitable encounters between the DG/ED and the media, as well as the placement of opinion pieces
    • Maintaining and enhancing the contacts database
    • Assisting with media inquiries
    • Producing content for the website and social media
    • Performing other tasks as necessary.

    Education
    To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Work Experience
    Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme, but are encouraged to list all relevant work experience in their application.
    Experience with media and communication work would be an asset.
    Languages
    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language and/or German is an asset.

    • Be computer literate in standard software applications
    • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
