    Accountant at The East African Community (EAC)

    The East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
    The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.
    Applications are invited from highly motivated and result-driven professionals who are citizens of East African Community Partner States (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda) to apply for the following positions tenable at the East African Legislative Assembly, in accordance with the availability of Quota Points per Partner State.

    Organ / Institution: The East African Legislative Assembly
    Duty Station: Arusha, Tanzania
    Job Grade: P1
    Job reports to: The Clerk
    Job Purpose:
    To supervise, control and coordinate the accounting function of East African Legislative Assembly.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Provide data for use in financial management;
    Maintain effective internal control system;
    Provide advice on financial and accounting matters;
    Prepare annual accounts and replies to audit queries;
    Prepare briefs for the Accounts Committee, and follow-up action on Accounts Committee recommendations;
    Ensure conformity with the Budget;
    Ensure compliance with the EAC financial rules and regulations and controls on payments and procurement procedures;
    Maintain basic accounts records of expenditure and receipts;
    Control all accountable documents;
    Prepare annual appropriation and other accounts;
    Ensure all transactions are properly authorized and controlled in accordance with laid down procedures and ensure that adequate internal control systems exist;
    Prepare payment vouchers; and
    Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Management.

    Qualifications and Experience:
    Bachelor of Economics, or Commerce, or Corporate Management. A specialization in accounting or Finance is added advantage.
    Certified Public Accountant: CPA (T), CPA (K), ACCA or equivalent;
    At least 5 years experience in accounting or financial related field.

    Skills and Competencies:
    Strong accounting, communication, report preparation and writing, organisational, analytical, negotiation, team building, networking and computer skills.
    Education Qualifications and Relevant Working Experience:

    Education Qualifications:
    All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective countries. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
    All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.
    Relevant Working Experience:
    Internship, training, apprenticeship and clerkship will not be considered as relevant work experience
    .
    Eligibility:
    Considering the current status of quota points per Partner State under East African Legislative Assembly, only Applicants from the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, and the United Republic of Tanzania are eligible to apply.
    Terms and Conditions of Service:
    This position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable once and is subject to the application of the EAC Quota System.
