Description
The International Monetary Fund is seeking an Economist/Senior Economist for the Regional Studies Division of the Western Hemisphere Department (WHD). The selected candidate will play a critical role in contributing to the division's outputs, including WHD's Regional Economic Outlook (REO) and a number of higher-frequency surveillance products. Work on the REO would involve identifying relevant research topics, taking the lead in analytical projects, leading small chapter teams, and drafting the chapters. In addition, the selected candidate will contribute to regional surveillance more broadly, conducting policy-relevant analysis on cross-country issues, monitoring regional economic trends, preparing short notes on current issues and developments, and providing support to the WHD Front Office and Management on regional matters, including contributing to outreach presentations.
Qualifications
Educational development, including and/or supplemented by work experience, typically acquired through the completion of considerable graduate work in economics, is required.
The successful candidate should have strong analytical and research skills and should also possess outstanding written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team. Familiarity with economic issues of Western Hemisphere countries and advanced knowledge of Spanish would be beneficial but are not essential. The position offers opportunities for outreach, hence very good presentation skills would be requisite.
