ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. Key responsibilities
- Ensure that high standards of quality control are maintained on all contracts.
- Monitor construction and site development.
- Monitor the construction, contract progress, procedures, workmanship, schedule, overall job safety.
- Co-ordinate activities between the contractor, the consultants and ILRI
- Interpret, implement and reinforce regulatory requirements related to safety and environmental standard for the site.
- Notify ILRI, contractor, and the architect of any conditions that may delay completion of the total project or of major parts of the project
- Keep track of materials delivered to the site and used by the contractors & sub-contractors to ensure that materials used are those specified, or approved substitutes, and that materials are in good condition and free of defects.
- Diploma in Civil, Building or Construction Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of Auto CAD
- Computer Literacy: Microsoft office suite, use of internet and e-mail
- 3 years of relevant work experience
- Have a wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, trades, methods and legal/ statutory requirements
- Accurate and attentive to detail when checking work and materials
- Have ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Have good spoken and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili
- Have ability to establish and maintain sound relationships with stakeholders
- Willingness to travel extensively across the construction sites
Post location: Each Engineering Technician will be based in each of the construction project sites; Kipkelion and Muhoroni, Kathonzweni, and Oyugis
Terms of Appointment
These are Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions, open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is a 6 months fixed term with possible extension.
Job Level
This position is job level 2B, level 1, ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes; pension, medical and other insurances for ILRI's Nationally Recruited Staff.
