The World Bank Group (WBG)'s twin goals of ending extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity reflect a new global landscape: one in which developing countries have an unprecedented opportunity to end extreme poverty within a generation.
The WBG will face traditional and new challenges as it works with partners to reach those who live in extreme and moderate poverty. Indeed, many of those who emerged from poverty in recent years remain vulnerable to shocks and slowdowns in growth. Concerted efforts to equalize opportunities are necessary for substantial improvements in shared prosperity.
The Chennai office of the World Bank group was set up in 2001 with controller's offshoring some of its accounting functions to Chennai. Over the years, Chennai office has grown in its landscape with routine as well as relatively complex functions offshored by the several business units that includes Finance & Accounting (WFA), Information Technology Services (ITS), Human Resources (HRD), Budget, Performance Review and Strategic Planning (BPS), Treasury Operations (TRO). As on July 2016, the office has over 650 Bank staff and consultants from 9 Vice Presidential Units (VPUs). Over the past few years, several units in the Chennai office have embarked upon quality and efficiency journey. Quality, Efficiency initiatives include ISO, Lean, KPI, continuous process improvements, business process reviews etc. Business Process Excellence (BPX, otherwise called as WFABX) team in WBG Chennai office is created for centralized and systematic use of quality management principles and tools in business management, with the goal of improving performance based on the levers of customer focus, stakeholder value, and effective process management.
The Business Process Excellence function (WFABX) is responsible for providing a wide variety of services to the offshore operations of the World Bank Group as a Shared Service, which include Lean deployment, Project management, Training and Consulting services, Project mentoring, Program Governance and execution of cross-functional transformation projects etc. Based in Chennai, the WFABX team coordinates with the business functions across Chennai and Washington D.C for identification, execution and delivery of projects for business benefits. WFABX aims to imbibe operational excellence culture through continuous improvement in the business functions, alongside building process efficiencies for business benefits. Execution of enterprise wide transformation projects cutting across the business functions are the responsibility of the team attributing to stakeholder satisfaction metrics.
Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 2 year term appointment.
Duties and Accountabilities
The Business Process Excellence Analyst will be an individual Contributor to support projects under the guidance of the Head-BPX, leveraging the discipline of Lean and Project Management tools including work plans, dashboards and metrics to call out and achieve decisions, flag risks, and hold stakeholders accountable for executing against deliverables in a timely manner. The role also includes providing support to the Head-BPX team assisting in Lean deployment for the Chennai center for time bound delivery of business benefits. Lean deployment support includes conducting Lean trainings, providing mentoring support, managing stakeholder expectations and acting as a point of contact of BPX team for the functions assigned.
Responsibilities includes
1. Execute enterprise-wide cross functional transformation projects
2. Lead Change Management for the assigned shared services functions with effective stakeholders management
3. Own the end-to-end delivery of the projects by exhibiting result-orientation, and analytical mind-set
4. Lead and coordinate quality/efficiency/benchmarking initiatives for end to end business processes
5. Provide consulting support on business cases by performing assessments, diagnostic study of the processes, and making logical recommendations to the stakeholders
6. Provide trainings and mentoring support for Lean projects as Process Excellence Engagement manager for business functions in Chennai
7. Provide appropriate support to the BPX Program manager in leading the overall work program.
Selection Criteria
ROLE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
1. Lean/Lean Six Sigma Experience and certification at Black Belt level with a minimum of 5 years of experience (Shared services experience desirable, MBA desirable).
2. Highly organized, process-driven, professionally trained with a proven experience working in a matrix organization
3. Change management experience and demonstrated ability to manage senior stake holders
4. Strong listening skills and ability to gain understanding of partner needs and challenges
5. Strong relationship skills and client mind set to deal with stakeholders at all levels
6. Outstanding business acumen with good collaboration and influencing skills, excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, stakeholder management, situational analysis etc.
7. Ability to question and challenge the status quo
8. Ability to think out of box and willingness to go the extra mile to meet project deliverables.
