    Organizational Setting
    The Department of Safeguards (SG) is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for some 180 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements. The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries.
    The Department of Safeguards consists of six Divisions: three Operations Divisions: A, B and C, for the implementation of verification activities around the world; three Technical Divisions: Division of Concepts and Planning, Division of Information Management, and Division of Technical and Scientific Services; as well as three Offices: the Office for Verification in Iran, the Office of Safeguards Analytical Services and the Office of Information and Communication Services.
    The main objective of the Department is to maintain and further develop an effective and efficient verification system in order to draw independent, impartial and timely safeguards conclusions, thus providing credible assurances to the international community that States are in compliance with their safeguards obligations. The departmental operating environment is interactive, participative and dynamic with continuous inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy- and decision-makers, as well as counterparts in Member States and in the international development community.
    The Infrastructure Section is responsible for providing secure, reliable, and dependable computing, collaboration, database and communications services to the Department of Safeguards. The Infrastructure Section cooperates with other Sections and Divisions in the Department of Safeguards to deliver IT services at a very high standard.
    Main Purpose
    Reporting to the Section Head, the IT Systems Assistant provides IT and administrative support to the Infrastructure Section. This includes: providing the review of system and security logs, generating and reviewing reports and the escalation of anomalies to subject matter experts; perform routine network troubleshooting and maintenance; filing and administrative related to software and hardware licensing; as well as processing of documentation related to the Section's work.
    Functions / Key Results Expected
    • Perform routine review of various system event logs and maintain statistics, generate and review reports on system activity, performance, and behaviour and communicate results with other IT staff and Departmental staff as requested.
    • Perform routine installation and maintenance of network equipment and other IT equipment
    Technical Assistance:
    • Verify system that system backups are running smoothly and adjust scheduled job parameters as necessary.
    • Conduct tests of the hardware and/or software, using supplied test procedures and diagnostic tools. Document results in accordance with agreed procedures.
    • Assist with service management procedures, maintaining software libraries, and tracking software licensing, including working with procurement in preparing license renewal requests in a timely manner.
    • Meetings and logistics: Makes travel arrangements, prepares travel authorizations/claims for supervisor(s) and/or participants, and compile, calculate and prepare cost estimates using the IAEA software.
    • Administrative activities: Provide required support and/or back-up to staff in executive offices or other Sections.

    Qualifications, Experience and Language skills
    • Completed secondary education.
    • Minimum of four years of relevant experience, some of which in an international environment.
    • Good knowledge of methodologies and processes related to IT services (e.g. ITIL); ability to collect, review and process information, and to prepare reports which identify issues, conclusions and recommendations.
    • Experience in providing system support, preferably in an information management setting.
    • English language test (level 2) and typing test (level 1) to IAEA standard.
    • Good command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of another official IAEA language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an advantage.
    Remuneration
    The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 37395 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance
    Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Recruitment will be on a LOCAL BASIS only. Outside applicants are required to supply to the IAEA or to authorize it to seek all information relevant to their suitability for employment by the IAEA. Testing may be part of the recruitment process.
