Duties and Responsibilities
The Innovation Intern, under the guidance and direct supervision of the Associate Communications and Innovation Officer, will carry out the following duties and responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting research on innovative thinking and practice, compiling background materials, statistical data and briefing notes for innovation and media events;
  • Assist in the preparation of innovations, communications and public-private partnerships outreach materials (i.e. PowerPoint presentations, brochures, etc.), as needed;

Background
Under the guidance and supervision of the Head of ICT Unit and overall supervision of RR, the ICT Associate provides daily technical support for users of the Local Area Network (LAN), information management tools and technology infrastructure. The ICT Associate should be competent in the technical aspects of ICT systems (included LAN System, daily support, training, and implementation) in order to ensure 100% availability of the technology environment. System support includes both corporate and user areas. The ICT Associate is responsible for the review and advice on the use of new technologies that will enhance the assigned units' productivity.

Background
The African, Caribbean, Pacific (ACP) Group of States, the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have initiated a 3-year, - 13.1 million capacity building program to support the low-value minerals and materials (LVMM) sector in the Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States. The sector includes the mining of construction materials (e.g. gravel, sand, clay and limestone), dimension stones (e.g. marble and granite), industrial minerals (e.g. gypsum, potash, salt, bauxite, graphite) and semi-precious stones.
The initiative 'Capacity development of mineral institutions and of small-scale private sector operating in low-value minerals in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries' aims to help the sector contribute toward the ACP Framework of Action on the Development of Mineral Resources Sector, endorsed by the ACP Committee of Ambassadors in 2011, as well the ambitious United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative also aims at supporting the development of a competitive local private sector in ACP countries, in line with the EU communication 'Increasing the impact of EU Development Policy: an Agenda for Change'. This intra-ACP program was initiated by the ACP Secretariat, financed by the European Commission and UNDP, and will be implemented by UNDP at the request of ACP Group of States.
The main focus of the program will be on building the capacity of key stakeholders in the sector, including public stakeholders such as regulatory agencies and local governments; private stakeholders such as small-scale mining enterprises, associations, and business development centers; and social stakeholders such as civil society organizations and community groups.
Training and support will be provided in the following thematic areas of importance to the sector
  1. mine and quarry management;
  2. environment, health and safety;
  3. entrepreneurship skills;
  4. market analysis and investment promotion;
  5. geo-data and maps design;
  6. community relations and addressing grievances.
The project will partner with a range of institutions specialized in mining and low-value minerals to develop tailored knowledge products and deliver training in these focus areas.
Website development
The project seeks to develop a website tailored to its specific knowledge management needs targeting: a) four key stakeholders in the sector, including public stakeholders such as regulatory agencies and local governments; private stakeholders such as small-scale mining enterprises, associations, and business development centers; and social stakeholders such as civil society organizations and community groups; and b) other key players in the sector including key regional institutions in the ACP, multi-lateral and bi-lateral institutions, development partners, research institutions, academia, international and national NGOs, civil society actors, the financial services sector, private equity firms and other UN agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
The initiative 'Capacity development of mineral institutions and of small-scale private sector operating in low-value minerals in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries' requires a new website, which is expected to have an additional back-office functionality linked to a knowledge management portal.
  • In this regard, the Systems Analyst will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing the project's specific needs to inform the configuration of the website;
  • The incumbent will consult with the project team and the Bureau for Policy and Program Support (BPPS) to identify the technical requirements for the website and thereafter draft specific Terms of Reference for the website development;
  • The Systems Analyst will also be responsible for writing documentation to describe the exact tasks - as annexed to the ToRs - that need to be undertaken to develop, launch and manage the website. This will also involve an additional training component for project staff on main functionalities and content to be managed by the project staff;
  • The incumbent will provide technical support in the evaluation of the technical components of the web developer candidatures.
